I just bought my goldfish like a half n hour ago and there were just fine until five minutes ago that they just sat down. I fed them right after I bought them because the Petco guy said he didn't feed them yet that day. I bought two fish and I also put Acua Fine Solution. They are moving around right now, but I want to know how I can prevent this later and how I should take care of them better and would I need. Please help.

  1. Your goldfish became inactive because of their sudden environment change.  It usually takes a few hours for them to adjust.  Yours seem to be doing fine if they are moving around now.  Feed them a pinch full of food twice a day.  Dont wait for their tank to get green and filthy. For their best health clean the tank frequently to eliminate harmful waste.  Only use distilled water or use a declorinator.  I suggest putting an air pump in the tank for circulation. Good luck with your new fish friends.

  2. One goldfish requires a 20 gallon tank with 10 additional gallons for each extra fish.  The tank should be fully cycled before they are added and maintained weekly with gravel vacuuming and 20% water changes.  Keeping them in bowls or in water that hasn't been cycled is very stressful for them.

  3. they r sleeping

  4. How long ago did you put the chemicals into the water?  Sometimes they don't do so well with a new tank set up.  Next time you set up a tank, try adding half spring water and treating the other half of the water (or all spring water if you can do it)  If they are sitting, I would take them out of there and put them in spring water (pour a bottle of zephyrhills into a bowl and keep them there until you test the water in the tank)

Lastly, did you let the bag float on the top for long enough?  They may be shocked because of the change in temperature.

As far as how many can live happily in a tank, it depends on your filter.  I've kept fish for decades, and always used the one inch rule, which is one inch of fish for every gallon plus half of the excess that can be run by the filter.  (so if you have a 30 gallon tank with a filter made for a 50 gallon tank, you can keep 40 inches of fish in it.)

  5. You should have cycled your tank before you bought the fish, cycling is really important, but it's not too late, you can still cycle your tank, but with fish. Cycling takes about a month, and needs quite some attention. You also need to get some water testers, to see if the water levels match your goldfish. Did you buy any water conditioner? Water conditioner takes the chlorine out of the tap water which is good.
