  1. 1) Put them in the bath with oatmeal and/or baking soda.

    2) Calamine lotion

    3) Don't give them anything but water and orangejuice, soap, and popcials/icecream.

  2. Oatmeal baths will help with the itching.

  3. Oatmeal baths--you can put dry oatmeal in a sock, tie the end of he sock and put it in the bath.  The oatmeal juice that comes out when you squeeze the sock is soothing to the skin.  Calamine lotion helps too.

Tell the 6 year old and 3 year old to not scratch.  Cut their fingernails as short as possible to reduce the damage if they do scratch.

Do not use Tylenol or other medications.  It just adds to the burden on the body.

Let them run around the house naked if they want to.  My daughter got chickenpox when she was 4 years old, and she said that clothes made it feel worse.

We made chickenpox a party time for our 4 year old, to make it seem less of a bummer.  Every day daddy went to the store to rent a new video, and she got to eat ice cream. (probably not the best thing for her body but it was good for her spirit, lol).

Now, when I ask her what her favorite part of having chickenpox was, she says, "all the treats I got."

My other child got it at 10 months.  I don't remember him being too miserable.
