  1. get a better a coach.

  2. spend 15 minutes a day just stickhandling dont look down and if you can go to some public skates or somthing and try to work on stopping its really hard to explain how to stop the right way over the internet maybe when the season starts tell your coach to work with you on it.

  3. Get a book at the library on how to play hockey.  Practice on your skills, especially the fundamentals of skating.  It doesn't matter how good a puck handler you are if you can't skate.  Learn to skate first.

  4. enrol in speed skating school to improve your skating

  5. Here's a good tip to improve your shot when you are a either a beginer or advnaced level hockey player.

Get some tape and tape two pucks together... try shooting and passing with that for a while.

Then practice around with a just a single puck.  You will notice a difference.

You can even use three pucks.

  6. You know what you should try?  Skating around the rink CLOCK WISE...  This will help stopping/starting as you are probably used to going the same way all the time.  Good luck!!!

  7. Most rinks have a clinic or training session. They are usually pretty affordable ($12.00) for the hour session. These are great, inexpensive ways to improve your skills and get to know other players and coaches who can help you get on some good teams when your skills improve more.

  8. train...train....and train

    after all practice makes perfect

  9. Besides practicing what you need to work on... try switching to left wing, if your coming down on the goalie up the left side, you'll have a better angle for shooting if you're right handed, and its more likely that you'll score more.

  10. When you are on the ice and doing skating drills stop facing your weak side more than your strong side. The purpose of practice is to get better not to look better.

Practice your stick handling first while standing and moving slowly in a straight line. When you do this you will get a feeling for where the puck is on your stick. Use a smaller curve on your stick as well. This makes puck control easier.

Assists are often as important as goals. Each results in a score for your team.

Above all learn to have fun when playing. For each 10,000 kids that start playing hockey each year only 1 will make the NHL. But the other 9,999 will learn a game that they can enjoy for life.
