Question:

HELP! How can I get rid of the smell of vomit from my car?

My son got sick in my car a few weeks ago, I had the car professionally detailed, but there's still a lingering smell. Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell of puke and the overall "mommy mobile" smells? I don't want to just cover it up with something since that hasn't seemed to work very well.

Thanks for any advice!

  1. try using frabic softner sheets and stick them throughout the car, inbetween seats, glove box.....

it should help eliminate the smell

  2. Try taking some newspaper, separate into single sheets, than crumple and leave them in your car for at least 24 hours, longer if possible.  It'll take probably a whole newspaper for a car, but crumpled newspaper absorbs orders naturally.  It works best when you have just a single sheet so tear double sheets in 1/2 before crumpling.

  3. sprinkle some baking soda on the area and leave it.  Do this every few days. The baking powder absorbs the odor. Vaccuum about once a week. In a couple of weeks your odor should be gone.

  4. Febreeze.  Oust works well too.  Keep your windows down if you can overnight and it will help air it out!

  5. My daughter got really sick in our car a year ago. I drenched it in Resolve Carpet cleaner and scrubbed until my arm hurt. Then I took a bucket of warm water and scrubbed over the top the Resolve. Then, scented vacuum powder (for pet odors) and left it sit overnight, then vacuumed in the morning. The smell was gone.

  6. call the detailers and ask their opinion.  if they aren't able to help, try Febreeze antibacterial and keep your windows open.  the smell will dissipate eventually.

  7. A mixture of plain white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the seats and let sit with the windows down overnight. THEN spray with LYSOL. LYSOL will kill the bacteria that causes the odors, not just cover them up. I had to do with with my car and also my son's mattress. It works great. I also have several housecleaning jobs and have gotten rid of dog odors on carpets by doing this also.

  8. I've got the best solution for eliminating the odor for good... and safe and totally fragrance free. Go out and get a couple of the FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers - little purple cube - not the imitations. and put a couple (maybe more) in car and trunk. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.

I've used these for worst smells in fridge and ice in freezer. Also, took care of spoiled fish in car Also have two cats and use these on litter box - they are FANTASTIC No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct which is what I do - contact them at customerservice@innofresh.com and ask for order form. You get it right away.

Definitely the way to go. try it.

    Good luck

  9. Try using a combination of oxi-clean and water.  Follow the instructions on the bucket.....spray it over the spot and let it set for a minute then blot it up.  This works for anywhere in your car, just be sure to "test" the fabric to make sure it won't discolor it. We have used this at home to remove the urine odors from mattress. HTH!

  10. steam cleaning does wonders.  i bought a car wilh stale tobacco smell and i used fabric softner sheets stuck in every corner and it did the job so it might be worth a try
