  3. Sledge hockey is played on a sled, the players carry two sticks and most propel themselves with their arms using small spikes on the tops of the sticks.  Some players with certain disabilities are permitted to have a helper to propel them.  The puck, equipment (aside from the sled) and arena is the same.

In able-bodied hockey, the players propel themselves with their legs using skates, they are only permitted to carry one stick.

There are a few other rule differences:

~ If the benches are not fitted for disabled hockey, the non-playing participants use the area directly in front of the bench in place of the bench.

~ The previous rule applies to the penalty bench as well.

    ~ Max/min stick dimensions differ.

Aside from these differences, along with the re-wording of a few of the penalties that are the same in order to fit sledge hockey, they use the official USA Hockey rulebook.
