as a cashier at Nordstrom and a tutor in an NYC public school for 4 years. My majors were Anthro and Art History and ideally I would like to work in a museum but for now I just want ANY type of job! I feel like I am always either overqualified or underqualified for the jobs I apply for. Help!

  1. You have to eat and pay bills, so apply for the jobs you feel you are qualified for or could learn with some training.

Sounds like you've got some retail experience and some teaching experience so start on those areas. Until you find your 'ideal' job, stick with what you know or something that is somewhat in the area of your education that'll help you move in your desired direction.

    Good luck!

  2. Wow.  Talk about a non-marketable degree.  Ok, then, how about teaching?  Ideally, college level.  Have you looked into adjunct faculty positions?  Adult Ed continuing education classes to get your feet wet?  I supposed you've tried art galleries.  If you want to use the degree, you need at least a masters and preferably a PhD.  Therefore, in the short term, you need a job with a company that offers tuition reimbursement.  A lot of large companies do and so do a lot of banks.  If you don't already know MS Office, learn it.  Then, start checking out the websites of every company that's headquartered in NY.  Look for clerical/admin jobs (or anything non-specific).  Tailor each resume to the specific job and go for it.

    I wish you luck.
