HELP! How to I award points to those that answered correctly?

I started this the other day for the heck of it and don't know how to work the system. How do I award points or stars and how should I go about it once I've learned to do it? He who answers first? Spread 'em out somehow - sorry I'm new at this and obviously I'm a moron!

I actually learned how to navigate this site by trial & error like a little kid   You'll catch on very quickly

You can only choose one best answer.  The answerer will earn 10 points.

OR

You can put the questions to vote and let the people decide.  The one with the most votes will earn the 10 points.

Stars are different than best answer.  

You star a question that you think is a great question (can't be your own question).

When you ask a question, you should pick the best answer from all that were answered.  You do this after the question is closed (about 3-4 days).  If you don't pick a best answer, it will go to voting, and the general public gets to pick what they thought was the best answer.

Don't forget that asking a question costs you points, but you get most of them back by choosing a best answer.  You asked it, you are best qualified to decide who answered you best.
