HELP!!! How to tell your team they will have pay cut?

I am currently in a difficult situation that my boss ask me to tell the team members that they will have a very drastic pay cut next month. If you are in the same situation and if the pay cut rate is very unreasonable, how will you convince your team to stay?

I think you should gather them as a group, and start with "Guys, surely you've been hearing the news about the tough economy, lots of problems with business, and the nations rising (with emphasis) unemployment rates.  I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but our company is also suffering.  I have no choice but to cut every ones pay by _%.  I totally understand if you do not want to accept this, and if you choses to leave the company, I will not contest your unemployment benefits.  I really do hope you stay as part of our team, and hope the economy turns back around and we can all benefit.  I don't expect you to give me your decisons right now,  but if you intend to leave us, please, as a favor to me, let me know by Friday.

  3. Like Andrew said definitely get them together in one room.  Make it short and quick.  Allow them to make there own personal decisions whether they want to stay or not.  This is not your fault so do not take it personal, ok.

    n yeh .. as adrew said ... u must explain them the present scenario ...

    If they are loyal employees they will understand ... and if they aren't ... u don't need them ... :)
