Question:

HELP! I'm FREAKING OUT! Microsoft Word related issue?

Okay, nearly a year of writing just turned into this.

`¡ ®Î“655ß¹s÷¯¿ý~æÛ³öN.ðr–úrúlil^ÉããÓgÌ™‰{^... EN™X›RDμ†–‚¶¡*Ì¢õµç¨êÎQ3S4О¯jgê¹Ð ‘…¸NÁj•²–ŒÔ

But much much longer. -_- Later on in the document the words I wrote start showing up mixed in with the nonsense, but out of an original 28 pages maybe the last 5 pages, at most, exist. When trying to open the document it pops up a window for me to choose the encoding setting that makes my text readable, I went through them all and none do. I (stupidly, I know) have only one copy of all this, and little (if any) of it has been posted to my site yet.

I need to get this problem solved! Writing this story has been one of the only things I've given half a c**p about for the last 4 or so years!

  1. Hi,

Make a copy of the word document and use the below utility on the copy to see if it fixes your issue

    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/word.html

Also you didn't mention the version of Word you have. Try opening the document with newer version (ask any of your friends or someone who has office 2007 or download trial from MSFT) to a new computer. Word 2007 can recover most of the old documents.

Hopefully one of these will work for you

    Good luck!

  2. i do apologize for what happened. Please try to keep a back up of those very very important documents.

It looks like it may have been saved in a different format that MS Word is not able to understand. Have you update, downloaded, or downgraded anything at all?

    Have you changed the format?

Close it don't do any thing and try to re-open it - in another program..

have you always used the same computer? Have you been emailing the document back and forth to yourself?

You need to keep this type of stuff on as many back up devices as possible and save often..

I don't think that I can slove your problem but this will prevent this from happening again..
