I don't want to buy an expensive flash drive or anything if possible. Is there a way to hook the computers together and transfer stuff?

  1. Check the help file for File and Settings transfer wizard already included with Windows XP.

    Start/all programs/accessories/system tools.

  2. Use a flashdrive, just plugin copy and paste to new comp.  You can buy a 10$ flashdrive for 128mbs its not big but it will get the job done.  In this day and age every one should have a flashdrive.

External Hard Drives are really expensive you should only get one if you need more room for projects, games, etc.

  3. external hardrive

  4. If you have a home network, you can connect the laptop to the network and share a folder on one computer(make it accessible from the other computer) and transport all your media to that folder from your other computer.

  5. through network

    or bluetooth

  6. Probably - but your best bet is to save it to a data-DVD, and just copy it to the new computer once it arrives.  The good thing about DVD's or CDR's is that you still have the discs themselves should there be a problem with your new lappie or your old PC.

  7. crossover cable and windows file sharing

If you already have a router you DO NOT NEED the crossover cable.

  8. In all honesty I would suggest getting a pen drive it is a little thing you plug into your old computer transfer all of your items onto it then plug it into the new laptop and there you go..THey can range in price depending on the amount of space you want and they are also great for future things like to always keep your photos on and such...THe one show in the link below is for 512 MB it is a good size. I have a 2gb it holds everything! Please remember to always keep copies of all of your pictures on a disk or a pen drive. I have lost 2 years of my childrens lives due to a NEW laptop hardrive going bad. Just some FYI

  9. Just get a dvd and drag it in. I bought two dvds which add up to about 8gb. I bought it for a dollar at the dollar store. Hopefully you don't have more than 8gb worth of stuff.  this is the easiest way because there are software out there that can do this but for money. like around$50, if you buy a flash drive for about $10 it will have smaller size than the dvd
