Question:

HELP! I Need Advice On Predicting Winners of Handicap Races?

Has anyone got any tips on how to predict fairly accurately the winner of 1m and 2m furlong handicap races? I know this is quite difficult as generally all horses have an equal chance of winning due to being hcap. I’ve heard that the favourite normally has a greater chance of winning in hcap races of 5-8 runners and less of a chance if there are more horses running. Is this true? Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. Thoroughbreds can be rated several ways for handicapping.

    Index:

Earnings per start(determines class and ability)

Time between Starts(minimum of days indicate fitness)

    Time between Wins(winning routine(s)

    Distance preference(or versatility)

    Weight advantage or disadvantage

    Fastest Chart for Distance

Fastest  Work(s) for half the distance of current race.

    Surface condition(s) or preference(s)

  2. favourites overall win approx 28% of races, i find if you can take multiples, e.g. trifectas, doubles, quinellas, etc on the top 5 fav. you can have a lot of fun. a well known punter said you must be prepared to lose if you want to take on the tote.

  3. Buy a racing form.Handicap races are usually easier because they are more consistent to form.you can study past performances and get a good idea of the race and how each horse will run.recent races are the most important.number of horses has nothing to do with winner percentage of favorites.except more horses could cause a greater possibility  for trouble for  the favorite thus more horses means more possible upsets.Handicap races get the best jockeys.trainers and thoroughbred horses and the best or fittest  horses usually win..Study the form.read the comments and always bet on the gray horse A system that works for me.

  4. The lower the betting odds the higher the chances that the horse is going to win.
