So how did you get the job!?  You must be able to show you are a legal resident and that you are using the SSN issued to you and not someone else.  Unless you are an alien, then you need your work visa card.

You'd better GET both a Social Security card and a birth certificate right away! You might not have needed those things before, as a kid, but in the grownup world you need them both.

Actually, you must have both of them *somewhere* ... your parents would need your Social Security number every year when they do their taxes, and you wouldn't have been allowed to enroll in public school without a birth certificate, so the real problem is not that you don't have these things, but that you don't know where to find them!

I assume you've asked your parents where these items are? If they really don't know, then you are going to have to fill out forms, send checks, and be patient as you wait for new copies of each of them to be sent to you in the mail.
