I am finishing high school and ive narrowed my career choices down to Police officer or Firefighter. But I need to decide which career to pursue so that I can adjust my classes and get a plan together. What are some pros cons? Benefits, risk's, rewards, different jobs I would perform stuff like that... all help is greatly appreciated... Thanks!... (I live in Canada, I don't know if that effects anything though.)

  1. jst think of your self and it will come to you What dose your heart say to you?

  2. I would probably say you be police officer if you want a higher paying job. If you want safety and a challenge, be a fire fighter (well both are a challenge) This is what I think. My opinion is that you chose what is more fun to you.

  3. well, to be either you have to know someone. a policeman has more requirements to qualify for the job. Most firemen just like adventure, or drama. Both pay very well. The reason my uncle (as a fireman) works two jobs is because he can: he's on duty 24 hours, off 48. He switches with guys to "work" two or three 24 hour shifts and then gets a week off. His firehouse only gets 4 or 5 calls a year. Oh, yea, firemen don't take remains out of buildings, that's the coroner's job.

  4. firemen have good PR, and great pay, along with a do-nothing job.

cops can put their lives on the line all the time, give out tickets and harrass people for no reason because they can. After all, they carry a weapon.

if your a gloryseeker, be a fireman.

If you want to make a difference upholding the law, be a cop.

  5. Both are extremely dangerous jobs. You will be dealing with criminals,(guns, drugs, violence, blood guts and death), as a police officer. As a fire fighter you will be dealing with some very difficult deaths,(children and adults alike, animals.) You will sometimes have to see victims with severe burns, cuts, dismemberments. You will aslo be dealing with alot of the same stuff that police deal with,(car wrecks, lots of times you will be responding to 911 medical response calls). I have very good friends that are both and they say most of the time their jobs are very rewarding, but there are times that the job, (either one), is almost unbearable. A friend of mine, fire fighter, responded to a house fire one night. a little girl that was 6 years old died in that fire. There was nothing anyone could do. He said when they took the little girls burned remains out after they got the fire out he almost quit right then. It was the hardest thing he ever had to do. So they both have their ups and downs. If I were you I would just talk to a few fighterighters and a few cops and then make your descision with a little better understanding of the ups and downs of both jobs.
