I currently attend Suny Old Westbury as i previously stated. The College has a 4th tier ranking, according to U.S News. It's an ok college, but not great. I'm a junior(currently with a 3.35 gpa) and tomorrow is the beginning of my second semester there (i transferred from a community college with an A.A degree, my gpa was ok but not that good because of personal problems). If everything goes as planned I should be graduating in May of 2010 with my B.S in Business Administration. I want to go to graduate school for my MBA. I will most likely want to go to a Top Tier University like Emory, for example.

--> If i keep my gpa between 3.4 and 3.6 at Old Westbury do you think i can get accepted into a top tier school?!!? If not, I have been considering transferring to SUNY Stony Brook or CUNY Baruch (which are better colleges) for the Spring of 2009, but it might take me longer to complete my B.S and graduate. School starts tomorrow and I'm very confused. I don't know what to do! Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. :) Thanks!

  1. In regards to MBA program. Top MBA programs rarely accept students straight from undergraduate, they prefer applicants with at least 3-5 years of experience in their field. The other matter is, yes, it would help if you attended a Tier 2 college or higher, but not required. Your GPA, GMAT, what you have accomplished, and how you present yourself at the interview is what matters more.

Here's what I recommend. First thing tomorrow, make an appointment with S.C.O.R.E. (http://www.score.org/). It's an all volunteer organization of retired executives and entrepreneurs who made it in real life and looking to give back to the community by advice. It's one of the best resources for entrepreneurs.

My two cents... those who are the most successful in running their own business don't necessarily have the highest degrees. You don't need any degree to run your own business, not even a high school diploma, but it helps.
