HELP!!! I have a 2 stroke V-Twin that gets caught on points?

I have a 2-stroke that i am trying to rebuiled and the top gets caught on the side were the points are. how to get the top off.

If you can't tell by looking at it then you really need a manual. They are made for ready access but you don't sound familiar with the motor. Many manuals are available to download and most are available at reasonable cost from your marine parts store.
