The sound on my PC used to work...it no longer does for some reason. I've gone to Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel and it says "No Audio Device". I went on the whole Device Manger thing and it says that ALL audio and sound is working properly an is installed. However, for the "Multimedia Audio Controller" it says, "the drivers for this device are not installed". So i tried to reinstall the driver and nothing works. I've tried reinstalling the Motherboard CD and still nothing works. The manufacturer of the sound device is Realtek and it's called Reatek AC'97 Audio. How can I get my PC sound back??? Please any suggestions!! Thanks! I also uninstalled the "Multimedia Audio Controller" b/c this is the one with the missing device and I shutdown my computer and it reinstalled itself but it says that I need the Realtek AC97 Audio Driver Disk but I don't have that...what can I do? And I lready trie System Restore...no go...can't I just download the driver?

  1. Make sure your Sound Driver isn't disabled, it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:

Go to Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable.

If you don't know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start> Run> dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.

If that still doesn't work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to the "Support" section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer's model, but once you enter that it will give you and option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.

    Hope that helps =]

  2. You can install the driver. Just go into the website and search for the driver directly from their site. Once found, download and install.

However, there are some instances where the computer needs a push. In these cases, go to Device Manager. If they say "the drivers for this device are not installed," then manually install them.

    1. Right click on the device

    2. Click Update Driver

    3. Click No, Not at this time (useless if the driver is not recognized first)

    4. Click on Install the Update Automatically. (this should detect the device and automatically install it)

    5. If the driver is still not detected, then repeat step 1-3 and skip 4. Continue to step 6

    6. Click on Install from a Specific Location

    7. Choose an option that works for you. If you know where the driver is installed on your computer. such as C:\..., check the Include this Location and add the folder. If not, click the I will choose the installer, which directs you to a list of drivers pre-installed on the computer.

Another advice is that since the driver was working on your computer, it is probably still there. You have to search around and it usually can be found on the C:\, such as dell is usually C:\DELL\DRIVERS.

    Hope this helps.

If all else fails, it might be that the sound card got corrupted and needs a replacement. Let's just hope it is not that.

  3. Get the driver from the computers website.Use your model number,go to the site,go to support and get it there.

  4. yes you can just download the driver try this link

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/down...

  5. I think you have an updated driver for your realtek AC97 hardware.

try downloading a privious driver from http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/ and install it and retry your playback

because the realtek's updated driver not works as expected on Vista as well as XP
