  1. put a laundry basket or something over it and take a piece of meat and put it by the animal then lay the meat outside where the possum can see it.

  2. Just use a broom and an empty trash can.  They don't move fast.  I wouldn't touch it because they really stink.  Put it outside.  Don't kill it.  They're nocturnal and eat a lot of roaches and snails.  If it's a baby the mama's outside so it'll get back with her.

  3. if its small enough for the cat to carry in then you can catch it and take it outside.  use a good pair of leather gloves, they have little sharp teeth,  toss a towel over it, scoop it up and carry it outside, maybe back to the woods before you release it.

  4. If it's a baby, just pick it up.  We've done it many times.  They get on our back porch.  They will cling to your cat, if they can reach it, and it will be frustrating for the poor cat.

The mother, on the other hand, will bite, but it's not too hard to push her out with a broom or long, heavy stick or pole.

Me, I'm not fond of them, and they eat our chickens, and the baby chicks, and all our other poultry, so I have no difficulty knocking a possum on the head.  They are terrible disease carriers, just like raccoons.  If you don't want to kill it, you will have to take it several miles away or it will come back.  You can use your broom to push it into a cat carrier, or a laundry hamper.  Just make sure you have it closed securely because they are tremendous climbers.  The adults can move fairly fast, but most often do the "playing dead" thing unless you actually are hurting them, then they are VICIOUS, and growl like a dog and will attempt to bite you.

Don't take it to an area where there are farmers raising poultry or other small animals.  They are terrible predators, and if you want it to live, the farmer probably won't.

  5. PLEASE!!!  Do not try to trap it!!!  You are not just dealing with a helpless baby possum here, you are also dealing with a treacherous mother who will slice you to ribbons if she has 1/2 a chance.

My advice:  Put your dog in one closet and shut the door.  Put your cat in another one.

open ALL YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS.

If you have a screen door, prop it open.

If you have window screens, take the one

off that's nearest to the back yard or wherever there's the most trees and bushes.

(I can't remember what possum's like to eat,

but if you know, put some by the threshold

of the door that's wide open.

Take a broom and carefully, push the

baby towards the door.  She will probably

start crying and the mother will show up.

When she does, just give her free space

to remove her baby from your house.

NOTE;  If you are putting pet food outside,

that's probably the reason they are coming

around and in your house.  Good Luck!
