I locked myself out of my house. How can I pick the lock to get in? I had only locked the lower lock (on the door k**b). And I don't know where to get a tension wrench and a pick from (let alone use them), how else can I get in?

  1. I dont know depending on your situation and the way your door hinges are placed you might be able to pop them off Not sure which kind of lock your talking about so Im not sure that that will work. Also if you needed to you could drill out the lock then go to the store and buy a new mechanism or a new door know I personally have never done this so I'm not sure how to do it but I know that works. (If you decide to do it do some research I dont want to hurt you instead of help you.) If all else fails find an open window or look for one first.

I personally dont reccomend kicking it in because that in the long run caused more problems with me than solutions

  2. Unless you break a window, you are screwed.   A locksmith would be cheaper and less damage.Call a family member who has a key, get a ladder if a 2nd floor window is cracked open.

  3. try climbing through a window...i do it all the time!!!

  4. If you know that you need a tension wrench and a pick, then you know how to make both with spring steel,a bobby pin or paper clip( using needle nose and a  file). The average person has no Idea what a tension wrench is how it is use to pick a lock. I think you are buffaloing us.

  5. might as well as get a lock smith or go around and try to find a window that is unlocked or open

  6. if the deadbolt is not locked just the nob you can use a s***w driver to open the door by sliding it into the latch between the frames and wiggling it around until open you can also try a thin piece of metal or my favorite a pie lifter. picking a six barrel lock is quite tricky and involves some experience. window latches are alot easier to open and even breaking a window can be cheaper then a locksmith.

  7. You might have success using a credit card to open the door, it may ruin the card, though.  I have done this on a few occasions, it works as long as the deadbolt isn't locked.

  8. The lock is halfway decent, a credit card will not open it.

Honestly, one good kick will open the door, but you will have to repair that part of the frame. Cheaper than fixing a window though.

The best thing is to call a lock smith.

  9. Use a thin knife or scraping tool, not a credit card. Get the blade on the far, tapered side of the catch, and wiggle the blade towards you until the catch is open. Be sure to not cut yourself.

  10. If it is not a deadbolt, you may be able to slide a flexible credit card into the space between the door frame and the door and push the lock open.

  11. Use a window if the windows aren't locked from the inside. Remove the storm windows and the screens and push the window open and climb in.
