HELP I need Advice on High Definition Camcorders??

I want to get a really good quality camcorder, and I went to Best Buy to look at them. The thing is every camcorder I found that was over 800 dollars or so was high definition. I dont have hdtv or any hd player on my computer. Is the only reason those camcorders are so expensive is because they are high definition? Or are there other things that make it worth buying other than high def? And would it be a waste for me to spend all that money when I have nothing that can play them in high def?

well first of all...none of those cameras is really High Definition (at least if it records to tape).  Its only a high definition codec.  Most definitely not the same thing.

Secondly, they aren't worth the money.  Technology keeps getting better and better so those will be obsolete in a few years time.  Wait till there is something that is true HD in the next few years.

Thirdly, it depends on what kind of stuff you're planning to shoot.
