  1. haha okay serving is a very tough thing to do, and it took me FOREVER to finally be able to do it the "right way" , so i definatly know where your coming from....here are some tips that i actually found extremely important and useful while learning how to get it over and just plain serve the right way/over handed.............

NEVER stand straight facing the court, angle yourself 45 degrees to the right

NEVER put extra steps into your serve, just step and drag, thats it

ALWAYS keep you hips, shoulder, arm, and hand OPEN!!!

NEVER try to just hit it as hard as you can, take time on checking your form, opening up and swinging through the ball

ALWAYS try to think about what your doing and where you want the ball to go

ALWAYS be positive and tell yourself "i can do it"

ALWAYS ask yourself "what went wrong" if you miss a serve or it does not go where you want it to go

***hope i helped and good luck with the serving!!!

  2. throw the volleyball up in the air, make sure to throw it straight then when it falls back down to where you can hit it then hit it but make sure to hit it with the palm of your hand and when you smack it, pretend your hitting someone you really dislike and it should go over :)

  3. Why are you trying out if you can't overhand. That's like a basic skill.

  4. A good serve will start with a good toss. The ideal toss is not too high, nor is it too low. It's right above your head and just in the right spot where you can hit it over.

Next, on your toss up, lean back a bit. This will start to reserve all of your energy, or putting it more simply - potential energy.

Then, wh you go to hit it, lean forward. This is called kinetic energy and will transfer all the power in your legs and arms to the ball, making it go higher, faster, etc.

  5. you need to work on your upper arm strength because the more powerful the better. I am a great overhand server, i just kept on trying and trying and trying and i finally got it you should go close up to the net and every time you serve it over the net take a step back good luck!!!!=]

  6. Its all in the toss

    -Toss (*high*)

    -Step

    -Hit (*in center of hand*)

This will not come "FAST" at all, it takes time....

    Luck :)

  7. first you have to have a solid consistent toss. i practice this by repitition, i sit with a ball and toss the ball until i can consistently make the ball go a decent height and have absolutely no spin on it...up and down. thats all

second. work on the motions and foot work. try without a ball going through the motion of serving. left foot forward, right arm back. "toss", swing and step. throw your whole body forward, being careful not to cross the line with the foot your stepping with and watch the follow through...there shouldn't really be one. stop your arm as soon as you contact the ball. if you follow through, the ball will go down to soon.

third. once you have the motions down try with a ball. have another, more experienced person watch you and make sure you have the motions right.

fourth be sure to contact the ball with "the meaty part of your hand" as my coach calls it. being mainly the bottom part of your palm, yet still using your whole palm.  hit the ball slightly underneath it in order to get some upward lift on it.

Good luck! hope you get it down...my team doesn't require you to serve overhand. the players that know they have a better underhad simply use that. its what gets the points!

  8. all of these chics that have answered ur question are all right.

but the one thing they didnt mention is that if your a beginner, its easier to hit it with a closed fist than ur open hand.

it gives you more power and control.

oh and if you dont keep ur arm straight up when you

hit the ball, it wont go as high as desired.
