  1. Burnaby St is in the West End.  There are lot a high-rise apartments there, and a large g*y population.

1025 Granville is at the North End of the Granville St. Bridge.  Crime and dysfunctional street lifestyles are prevalent there.

  2. i see you are looking at hostels.. if you are looking for a quieter hostel the one on Burnaby St. is the best choice... but you should know it is 1 block from Davie St. which is Vancouver's vibrant g*y district

If you are looking for a hostel in the heart of the night life choose Granville St.

Both are is shopping districts and in the downtown area

Depending on when you are coming there is also a seasonal hostel a Jericho Beach which is very quiet and in a very nice neighbourhood but is about 20min by bus into downtown

  3. Look on a map, if that Granville address is anywhere NEAR the corner of Granville and Hastings you're in the Stabbing District, and it's only good for families that enjoy crack-cocaine.

  4. I have lived in the Vancouver area for 23 years... (my whole life) and if you ask anyone on Granville street they'll tell you it's the nightlife street.. tons of drunk partiers... and it's close to Robson street.. another busy street. tons of people!! it will be very loud if you stay there! so you don't want to be staying there with kids, especially because 1025 granville street is a hostel! and so is the other location you mentioned... however, if you want to be close to everything, the granville street hostel would be your choice. there are tons of bars, restaurants, and places to shop right when you step out the door! The pro about the Burnaby street hostel is that it's closer to the beach than the other hostel and probably alot quieter... if i had to pick between only those two, i would stay at the burnaby street location if you want it quieter for your kids. But again I don't know how family friendly hostels are... i would suggest looking into actual hotels to stay at... even though they are more expensive, they are more family friendly. Usually backpackers and young people stay at the hostels. And with granville street, especially due to the proximity to the bars, there will probably be alot of roudy people staying there.

  5. There 's pros and cons to both.

The West End (1114 Burnaby) is very densely populated. According to tourism Canada, it's the most densely populated area in North America. Much of the population is g*y. There's parks and beaches within walking distances and a community centre nearby on Denman Street.

Granville Sreet, especially that part of Granville is where the clubs, bars, strip clubs, late night restaurants and p**n stores are. Both areas are close to the 'commercialized' area of Robson Street.

Those are your only two choices?

For a safer, family orientated district I'd recommend the west end.
