Question:

HELP INTERVIEW FOR DOROTHY PERKINS! TIPS/ADVICE?

Just recieved a phone call for an interview for Dorothy Perkins clothing store. The lady was really nice and we had a really good chat! I'm going in on Friday at 11am. I've got an outfit (crisp shirt, black trousers, black shoes, etc) and i'm a partly confident because they've chosen me after they've seen my cv, instead of me just phoning up and them not knowing anything about me (if you know what i mean.)

I knew the gist of an interview and how to act, i think i just want some extra tips and advice so that i'm fully confident.

So, i dont have that much experience - only a childcare work placement. This will be my first job. Where as with other places like bakeries i can blag a few bits about catering and that from my gcse course, with a clothing store i have nothing!

The only thing i can say is that i'm good with people, find it easy to talk to them, etc and am a fast learner.

What type of things will i be asked, do you think? And what sort of things should i say? Examples would be a God send!

Thanks, Jade. :)

  1. Best Tips.

    SMILE

    Research the company

    Dress smartly

    Arrive on time

Think about why you want the job

    What you can offer

Just be yourself and be proffesional and try to relax

Take deep breaths before you enter the building and say to yourself " I can do this"

    GOOD LUCK

  2. Some typical questions might be:

What do you know about Dorothy Perkins? (do your research)

Tell me about your experience to date.

Why do you want to work in the retail industry?

What qualities/skills do you have that will make you a good customer services assistant? (work well in a team, friendly, approachable, helpful, enthusiastic, motivated, eager to learn... expand some of these)

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Give me an example of a time when you..... used your initiative/showed leadership/worked effectively as past of a team etc

You can show your interest by asking a question (if invited) about training and promotional opportunities within the organisation.

My advice to you is to be yourself, develop your answers by giving examples/relating to past experiences, smile and make plenty of eye contact.

Your clothes sound great, however, if Dorothy Perkins has a uniform for their staff, a good tip might be to incorporate the colour of their uniform into your outfit, even with a scarf, brooch etc.

Finally, I wish you the very best of luck.

  3. Don't go into an interview with preconceived ideas.  Each job may require different things from different individuals.  Go into the interview as yourself. Don't be anything more or say anything more than is required.  Show your enthusiasm about working for their store and selling their products.  If you want this job, read up on the company, find out the different manufacturers they use, etc. and show the interviewer that you would be an asset to their company.  Enthusiasm is the key.  BTW: I am sure they already know that you don't have the sales experience working in a clothing store.  Perhaps there were other things they read about you that they became interested in calling you in for an interview.  Just be yourself, the rest will follow.

  4. 1personality

    2 confidence..confidence...confidence

    3 SMILE...smile

  5. Congratulations on getting the interview.

They have read your cv and will understand it's your first job,so they will expect you to be a tad nervous. They called you up you, had a chat and now you have been called for an interview.

You have already gotten through two stages.

Now they want to see what you look like. Your outfit sounds perfect and it goes without saying really that all you need to add to that is to look fresh and clean.Trimmed nails without polish is the way to go,i think.

If you have time before the interview could you drop by a nearby store and have a look around( no need to say anything to anyone there about joining the team) Check out the atmosphere, the stock, the other girls. This might not seem important at the time but come the interview and question time something you have seen in the store may give you an answer to something they ask.

You sound like a bright young lady and remember they may well be looking for someone they can take further on up through the company. The shop floor is just the start. If you have got what it takes it could be the beginning of a pleasant career in retailing. If that's what you want.

If it gets towards the end of the interview and they haven't mentioned any sort of career development,at the end when they ask if you have any questions it would be a good time to ask them about it.

Michelle R has given you some great advice too.See what you can find on the web about them. You just may remember some details from the research that will come in useful at the interview.

I may even have a look myself now and see if i can find anything to add to this in edit later.

I wish you all the luck in the world with this and if you can come back to Answers on Friday after your interview and tell us how it went-i for one would love to know how you got on.

Take a deep breath before you go through the door, give a big smile and offer a good firm handshake and a 'thank you for seeing me' when you leave.

edit; don't know who gave it or why i got a thumbs-down, i was just trying to help.. some very sad folk on here, sometimes

  6. They basically want to find out if you can work efficiently and whether they can trust you.

    Questions such as:

"If you found out that one of your co-workers had been stealing/doing something incorrectly/giving discounts to friends... what would you do?" - answer is obviously, inform the manager.

"What, in your opinion is 'excellent customer service'?" - think of all the positive aspects, and give reasons. Also say what you don't think should be done, and say that you strive to achieve excellence in all areas.

DP will serve women, men and of course cross-dressers, so they may ask you about serving the public. (This is not a joke - I worked for La Senza lingerie, and we had men buying for themselves, not just their women!)

Some general qu's/chances for conversation about women's fashion.

For God's sake mention Gok Wan.

Good luck. Arcadia is quite cool to work for, and the atmosphere is great at DP.
