Write and solve a system of equations by substitution:

A farmer grows corn and soybeans on her 300 acre farm. She wants to plant 110 more acres of soybeans than corn. How many acres of each crop does she need to plant?

  1. (300 - 110) ÷ 2 = 95

    corn = 95 acres

    soybeans = 95 + 110 = 205 acres


  2. 190 acres of soybeans and 110 acres of corn= 300 acres

    corn + soybeans =300

    corn +110=soybeans

    300-110= 190
