  1. The only people who can afford to travel on the trains are railway workers with their free tickets and politicians who get the rest of us to pay.

National Express coaches are much better value.  (They can be more reliable too).

  2. You'll find that the National Express buses are a great deal cheaper and take only a little longer.

  3. Just jump on the train reallly early and go to the toilets and come out on the stop before Birmingham and when the ticket collector come this time round pay for you ticket it'll be cheaper because you'll be closer to Birmingham.

  4. i dont know where you got that figure from, i went on the national rail enquieries website and an advance return cost just £25.10 or slightly more without an under 25s railcard (more like £40 without) a much more flexible saver will cost you £47 with a under 25 railcard. the train you should get will be the 1506 departure that will arrive at 1846

  5. Your travel times are too specific. The way people find cheaper rail fares is by being flexible with times, unfortunately for you.

One trick to try is combining tickets for part of the journey. Pick a station that's between Poole and Birmingham, and then see what a single costs from Poole to there, then another single from there to Birmingham. Amazingly, sometimes that's cheaper.
