Karl Bushby started walking around the world three years ago and he's still walking. He set off from the southernn tip of Chille with £500 in his pocket. He walked all the way up South America, through Central America and crossed the border into the United States. At the moment he is walking across the USA and plans to walk north into Canada. From there he will go on foot to Alaska and cross the frozen Arctic water of the Chukchi Sea to Siberia. From there he'll walk through southern Asia,Europe and back to England .The total distance will be 65,000 kilometres.
Thirty-three years old karl told reporters about his difficult time in the Darien Gap.'Last summer I was in the Darien Gap.It's a huge jungle between Colombia and Panama.Everybody there has a gun.
Everybody isfightingg. It's full of smugglers and very dangerous.' Karl didn't want anyone to see him so he swam down a river full of alligators for four days. When he got to Panama, the police put him in prison for eighteen days because he didn't have right papers. Karl knows the walk between Alaska and Russia will be the hardest part of the trip. The temperature will be as low as-40°C .But he will carry a radio to call for help in an emergency .A plane will probably drop supplies to him on that part of the journey . Karl, who joind the army at sixteen ,has no special reason for the walk.He isn't doing it to make money for himself or for charity.Every day people in cars stop and offerhim a lift.Every day he says no.
