I have a 1987 Wellcraft 192 classic with a 165 mercruiser. I just boat the boat about a week ago from a friend. My bud had not changed the oil in about 2 years. When i went to go change the oil it was very sludge and it had a silver tint to it. It was very thick. I checked the cooling to make sure the headgasket wasnt broken mabe the oil was gettign water. There was nothing wrong. Does it have a cracked block or can it be that he hasnt changed it in a long time?

  1. 1st things 1st  change the oil

  2. I agree with the other guys.  Change the oil first.  Maybe 2 or 3 times to get it clean.  How did you check to make sure the headgasket wasnt broken?  You would need to take the head off to find that out with any kind of certainty.  But anyway, quite often I've seen engines build up quite a bit of condensation while sitting.  Hopefully thats what happened here.  Change the oil and filter and run it briefly in between and see what happens then.  If you are still getting water in the enging, pull the head.  If not, you could very well be good to go.

  3. change the oil and try running it, then change it again, and again and again, ect until it's clean. Hard to tell from what you've posted, but for now, sounds like he neglected it.(along with what else?) Hard tellin not knowin? Change the oil in the outdrive too. Don't run it without muffs or you'll burn up the water pump impeller. Boats are like women, they take alot of time and money to maintain.
