HELP ME with my Pilot career?

I am 18 years old and have always wanted to become a pilot. In my last year of high school i changed my mind and went into business instead. I am currently in one of the top business schools in Canada (Schulich School of Business), which will guarantee me a fantastic well paying job in finance, accounting, or marketing and many others. However, i realized after this first year, i do not like business that much and what i truly want is to become an aircraft pilot. I was thinking of staying at this school and getting my Bachelors in Business Adminsitration and then maybe going to flight school to rack up hours and training. I do not know if this is my best option. I'm stressed becuase I want to do something i love and business is not it. Am i making the wrong decision? I really don't know, i worked very hard in high school (91% average) to get into this school im currently in. If there is someone with experience in this field out there that can help me and guide me on the right path. thx

  1. Get a good job so you can pay for the $100,000. USD it will cost you to learn to fly.  Then you can decide if the aviation career is best for you.  Get that degree, and fly later.  I wish I had done it that way.

    Good luck.

  2. I'm an aspiring pilot myself, best thing to do in my opinion, get yoursel that peice of paper stating you got you Bba, then go on you get your licence after, that way you have something to fall back onto whenh moneys tight while you struggle to get hours.  Im like the guy a few answers up, Im a truck driver, gonna make the switch from a childhood dream.

  3. I agree...stay in school.  There is not much job security in aviation. It is a great job and you obviously have the flying bug. There are allot of pilots who have degrees in something other than aviation. My cousin got a law degree just to find out that being a lawyer was not for him, he currently flies for Fed Ex. You are still young and have plenty of time after you graduate for your flying career. I started working on my flying career when I was 28 after driving a truck for four years and no degree.

  4. BBA won't hurt you. Just curious, have you taken even just one flying lesson? That wouldn't hurt, either. But, again, BBA is a good foundation.

  5. STAY THERE!!! Finish your school there, maybe do 2 years instead of 4 years or something. But you always need a backup plan in aviation. That will be a good backup degree in Aviation. Be patient.
