Hi there.

You have to pay a deposit of £3 for an Oystercard but this is refundable. Then you just add money as you need it: this is called "pay-as-you-go".

The Oystercard can be used on all London transport:  the Underground and the Docklands Light Railway, on buses, trams, London local overground rail services and also some national rail routes within London. It also gives you a discount on Thames river buses.

there's a Stansted Express booth & a National Express booth, you can ask them all the questions you want.  Someone in the airport or at the Underground Station you're closest to will be able to explain how things work.
