  1. i think you should call poison control. if the poison control doesn't do that kind of profession the the best is 2 CALL a vet instead of visiting one. if so, call immediately

  2. Stop the Panic

Accidents will happen. Your best defense is to remain calm and then to formulate a plan. If you portray serenity then your bird will too.

“Liz, Help!” My friend’s voice on the phone was panicky. I instinctively shifted into “Crisis Counselor Mode” and tried to calm her down.

    The Avian First Aid Kit

    Be prepared for small emergencies.

Forearmed is forewarned when it comes to avian emergencies. Prepare a first aid kit expressly for your pet bird. Some items to include are: a cauterizing agent (such as Kwik-Stop, flour or cornstarch), scissors, gauze, hemostats, needle-nosed pliers, a small hospital cage (an aquarium or brooder), a heating pad, a towel, extra bird food and bottled water.

  3. Call your vet at once & tell him/her of the situation.  How do they seem?  Are their eyes open and are they moving about as they usually do?  Tell the vet on the phone everything you notice about the birds.  Meanwhile, you MUST change & clean everything - in their cage:  food & water dishes, all perches, the entire cage (every single tine), wipe down with a clean, damp cloth every surface, all their toys, mirrors, treats, bells (you can wash & rinse in your sink) & air everything out.  Place everything near a big window or outside to air out.  If you have a hose, you might even want to remove every toy & removable part & hose down the cage really well.  Then you can wipe it down & let it air-dry in the sun.  Make sure not to forget to replace their cuttlebone(s) as those would most likely absorb any liquid.  The same would go for a calcium block, if they have one.  Cuttlebones are inexpensive & better safe than sorry.  I'd like to pass along this info. for you, just in case you don't have it - it is a great company.  DrsFosterSmith.com   1-800-443-1160
