Question:

HELP!!! Microfiber Love Seat Possibly Ruined? Rough Fabric?

While cleaning my microfiber couch to try to get the smell of cat pee out of it, I my have wet it a little too much. I also used a dish brush to lightly scrub the couch which may have not been the best idea. After drying the fabric was pretty hard so, I brushed the couch with a soft brush, and the fabric softened up a lot. However, the fabric is no where near to the softness of my other microfiber sofa of the same material. What can I do? Is it ruined? Is it possibly dry to the touch, but the fabric strands are still wet and need more time to dry to settle in? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very scared for these couches were very expensive.

  1. it is very likely that the baking soda is not rinsed out and is causing the stiffness in the fabric.  I had a microfiber chair I had to wash cat pee out of (I used lots of vinegar and water and it worked but took a while to dry).  Brushing the fabric to bring up the nap helps, but unless you rinse out the baking soda residue your fabric will still feel rough.  You might want to call a comany like Stanley Steemer or use a steam cleaner ( I love my Bissell portable one for this) to clean the upholstery.  Last resort?  Try slipcovering the couch.  Good luck to you!

  2. Most likely the baking soda has it rough.  Once it's completely dry try to run the vacuum on it, using one of the attachments.
