i have NO clue really how she got pregnant. i do have two other parakeets in a separate cage (1 of which is male) and we let them fly around and stuff and sometimes they go on each others cages. But anyway, the egg appears to be fine but i don't know what to do? Isn't the egg suppose to be kept warm? Any help on what to do/ when the egg will hatch will be awesome!

  1. Don't keep it warm, it will spoil. I would put it in the fridge and wait for the second egg. I love my eggs fried in butter, over hard with the yolk firm. That would be so cool to have a bird that gave free eggs!

  2. This is just an empty egg, but you should take the bird to an avian vet to have it checked out for this can cause calcium depletion and stress the bird out. So there you go.

  3. Birds don't get pregnant and a female doesn't need a male to lay eggs, only to fertilise them.   This egg won't be fertile if there's no male and it won't hatch  so there's no need to worry about keeping it warm.  Don't take the egg away though, or she might lay more to replace it.  If she does lay more eggs just leave them with her until she shows no interest in them and then throw them away.   Make sure she has a good diet of veggies/greens, pellets, some seed and a cuttlebone or calcium block.  She will need to replace the calcium her body used to make the egg shell.

  4. some birds lay eggs even if the eggs are not fertile.   We had a cockatiel that did that for years.  It was no big deal

Chickens lay infertils eggs all the time, that is what you eat for breakfast.

  5. I had a female and she layed two eggs the whole 9 years I had her. IShe was a very good natured bird til she layed an egg, so we had to take them out and throw them away, because if we didnt, she would try to bite me. Once I got rid of teh egg, she was back  to her sweet self.

  6. Female cockatiels tend to lay a lot of eggs. All females birds lay eggs even when they are not pregnant.(in other words the eggs can be fertile and infertile). If she ignores it ,throw it away. I'm betting the egg is infertile and will never hatch.

  7. It's perfectly normal for a female bird to lay eggs, and they not be fertilized.  Like a human female has a period, so to does a female bird.  Only through the egg.
