HELP! My cat's eye looks very swollen, and only half of the eye itself is showing

Okay, my cat, Bowtie, is about eight or nine years old. He does not encounter other cats on a regular basis, and this morning, my brother woke up and went out of his room [where Bowtie usually stays] and said later that Bowtie looked normal. Now, on my brothers room is a balcony and in nice weather, Bowtie is able to go out on the balcony. He went back in his room, about three hours later, and it seems as though Bowtie's eye is swollen, or has something in it. No pain seems to be inflicted on him, since he rubs his eye against corners [like cats normally do] My brother, who looked at it, says it looks like his eyelid could be flipped over, and it seems as though his eye is halfway up. Please help us!

PS. Since our mom is at work for most of the day, we might not be able to take him to a vet. Our mom knows about this, and posting this on Yahoo Answers, so we're fine. But, please help us!!

  1. As soon as you mom gets home take it right to the Vet. He need to be seen. And needs to have an ointment to be put on it. If left untreated he could loose eye sight in the eye

  2. I think he may have been stung by a bee/ wasp.

  3. well all i can say is find the closest vet. i mean just map quest it if u cant get a ride. cause i have had eye problems with my dogs and keeping ur pet home wont help maybe if its not the vet u usally go to just go to another one. its not good to keep it like that

  4. well, the cat could have pink eye, an infection, a bee sting, or a scratched lens. For most ofthose things the vet can prescibe an ointment to place around the eye, and if it is infected, an antibiotic.

See if there are any vets in the area that stay open late. I've seen some stay open until 11pm. Most are also open on Saturdays and some on Sundays too.

  5. if he lets u get some warm water and a cotton pad/wool and wipe the eye over inside to outside this will wipe out anything that could be in his eye or he has been stung hope this helps u out but when yr mum gets home if there is no improvement take him to the vet to get checked out

  6. Can your mom call the vet and get instructions from him or her? I'm sure the vet will want to see your cat ASAP - it sounds like an infection that must be treated immediately. They may also have suggestions for things you can do before Bowtie can get to the vet.

If your vet's office is closed when your mom gets home, I'm sure there is an after-hours (emergency) vet that could help you. Hope so!

Good luck with your little Bowtie! (cute name for a cat)

  7. We'll tell your mom to make time! This could be something serious, so if you dont take it to the vet soon enough, it could be too late!

  8. The cat probably has an eye infection so you want to use a cloth and use water if there's a lot of pus and then just wish for the best!

  9. he needs to get to the vet, sounds like the third eye lid is showing. which is a sign of infection, like conjunctivitis, get kitty to the vet as soon as your  mom gets home! Kitty could get real bad and loose and eye! Good Luck!
