I accidentally left my hamsters cage open and he got out. When I found him, he was really shaken up and he fur was a bit messy. I thought he was fine until a half-hour later I realized that his eye was puffy and bloody, I think the cat got him. The eye looks intact I think, but the area around it is swollen and bloody so I can't tell. He seems like normal, doesn't look like he's in pain. But what should I do? Is there anything that will stop infection or pain? Any help would be great!

  1. Aww, that poor thing! I hope he's okay. The best idea is to take it to the vet... but since your parents don't let, then... well, there's not much you can do. Tell your parents that your hamster doesn't look well and has infection on the eye. If they still don't let, I'm so sorry. I don't think it will die though... hopefully. You can give it loads of cuddles and make him feel loved.

  2. It annoys me when parents let people have pets but wont take on the responsibily of treating them. Just because it's a little animal, doesnt mean it isnt entitled to a decent life. Sorry, it really p****s me off!

I would offer to jobs round the house, clean a car, anything so you can take it to the vet as this doesnt sound good. My hamster broke its leg and it acted right as rain so they can hurt themselves but seem 'normal'. Only an injection etc will stop the pain and it really wont cost that much.

  3. My parents are like that too. I had to watch my pet mouse die of pneumonia.

I am not a doctor, but more likely than not your hamster will know how to take care of itself. The swelling should go down after a day or so. What you might try is wetting a cotton bud and wiping the blood off, or if you are really worried about infection, you can dab a bit of rubbing alcohol. Be very careful not to get the alcohol into your hamster's eye. Usually your hamster will know what to do to heal itself.

Don't worry, this does not sound like a fatal wound by any means. Keep changing his bedding regularly to prevent infection and give him lots of tender loving care. That's about all you can do. He will be just fine!

  4. Ask you parents to at least call a vet to see what you need to do for the hamster. It does not sound too serious so I'm sure a vet could offer some suggestions. I have called the vet several times to ask questions about how to care for a injured pet and they have always helped me. Try to take some tissue and wipe the blood away from his eye.

  5. give him some food and watch if he eats or not i had many hamsters and usually when they know there going to die they wont eat or drink but look after the wounds if its bleed try to get a cloth or something to put a little pressure. This will reduce the blood loss.also don't pick him up or make him move to much because after his adventure he will need rest another sign if he is going to be all right is that is doing all his normal activity  like in his wheel and chewing on his cage but i other then that theres nothing else i can help with hope he gets better =/

  6. Go to the vet or give him the kiss of life! :D

  7. OMG!!! Your parents are idiots. Your hamster is going to die if you do not take it to the vet. Why dont you pay for it? Unless you want you hamster to die then you need to take him to the vet.

  8. take it to the veterinarian!

    before that happens the worse!

    peace

    hey add me!!if possible!!^_^
