Ok, thanks to "Jim's" brilliant response, I'll add some detail. I KNOW the flies are drowing in my pool, but I'm wondering if anyone knows why my pool is full of flies that are eventually drowning and ending up filling my filter and skimmer and if there is any way of keeping them out of the pool in the first place.

  1. The answers are correct, but still no help on prevention.

Make a fly trap jar & hang away from the water, yet close enough to attract the pests that would usually end up in the pool.

    Instructions how to on that:

  2. maybe they r attracted to water, but they cant swim!?!?!

  3. In defense of Jim, you said the pool places "have no clue why", so the natural assumption is that you too have no clue why.

Generally, flies tend to hang around where there's an odor of decaying matter (where they like to lay their eggs).   If your pool is nearby, the flies might be getting into the pool by sheer accident - when the pool water is very still, they might not see the surface when flying around and may attempt to fly down, they hit the water and it's all over.

  4. They probably drown?
