Here in the UK top loading washing machines are rare, the very few offered are the American style ones such as Whirlpool, Adirmal or Maytag etc. I have been pondering about buying one for many reasons, but I don't have enough information on them.

Firstly, from what I have seen on You Tube the agitation is hardly noticeable, and does not use the two stroke method, the agitators seem to turn in one direction only and the rollover seems very very poor. Secondly, unlike the front loading machines here in the UK the top loaders to not heat the water to a selected temperature, and only rely on the hotness of the water from your tank supply.

I would really like to know if these machines actually really do get the laundry clean and if they are reliable. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!! x

  1. I had a top loader here in the UK in the 60's.  It did heat the water (Hotpoint brand) but was so expensive to run and was very hard on clothing and household items.  I replaced it with a front loader and have had a front loader ever since.  When I have been in the US I have used their top loaders and was not impressed with the cleanliness of the wash, or the way the clothes came out.  More recently I have spent time in a relative's home in New Zealand where they have American style top loaders (theirs was Fisher Paycal).  Same thing, doesn't get the launddry so clean and is rough on the clothes (I think the agitator causes the wear and tear).  Remember that the average top loader uses 25 gallons at least and that is a lot of hot water (and water).

  2. No Problem!!   I just got a new washer and dryer last week. You want one with the doors on the front not on top of the macines.  It is easier for me at least!   Samsung is a really nice brand..We have been using them since we were just dating...Before we got this new set of washer and dryer we had another Samsung for 40 years...they last a long, long time!!   I would go to with Samsung Front Door Washer and Dryer..

  3. Linux is the best.

  4. #1) I've had a GE for 7 years, use it 2-3 times a week, have never had a problem. I bought it because it had done best on Consumer Reports tests.

#2) Front load machines clean clothes better, are easier on the clothes, and are more efficient.

  5. I definitely would advise you to stick with the front loaders.

I live in America where front loaders were never ever seen but there is now a trend to move towards the front loaders. Top loaders are ok but ecologically wasteful and inefficient.

The LG brand I think are the best.

  6. While I was in the trade sometime ago people always seem to choose the Hotpoint brand. As for reliability well the warranty was good so didn't really matter and always a Hotpoint engineer as they do their own unlike some others. Never had any complaints.

  7. My  mun has a guest house, she has one, you can get so much in it. she has a separate laundry room, so it doesn't look out of place. takes a bit of getting used to loading, but she would not be without it. She used to have 2 normal machines, and they lasted about 18 months. She has had this 5 yrs. She also has a rotary ironing machine, great also.

  8. i would stick with a normal front loading wahing machine. there is too little knowen in the uk about what top mloading ones are like, best to buy a good front loading one. We have a hotpoint aquarius, its very good :) or get that ne LG steam..... we used to have an LG though, the silent one when it first came out, the bearings used to constantly break though. could recomend hotpoint though.

As well you have to have more rromf or a top loading one, they are generally taller, and of course you need room to be able to open the top.

  9. ...go to"Google"...   Consumer Reports.
