Question:

HELP Nursing Course enrollment?

I am currently interested in enrolling on a nursing course in the uk. I am wondering however what course i would need to enroll on to do this?

I currently hold 3 GCSE's at a C grade for Biology, Physics and Chemistry respectively

I also hold an A in IT and maths

and 2 B's in English Lit and Lang

I am wondering if these qualifications alone would allow me to enrol on a nursing course or would i require more?

I also hold 2 more GCSE's at a C grade and a final one at a D.

Would these grades alone allow me onto a course or would it require higher learning?

(I may also be obtaining 2 AS Levels in English Literature and Psychology - if unsuccessful with just my GCSE's would this be enough?)

thank you

  1. Yes, it would be enough if you apply for a nursing diploma course. You are only required to have 5 GCSEs at A*-C grade, with at least a C in maths and English (I think)

But going into it straight from college would not be a good idea. You would need some work experience first.

I had planned to go into nursing a few years ago but my only interview completely put me off. I was eighteen, but everyone there also being interviewed was much older, had loads of experience (not only that-they all worked at the place the course was run from!) and were already doing other short (some sort of pre-diploma) nursing or similar courses which was really intimidating. I think the diploma course does tend to attract mature students (or people a few years out of college) which they don't tell you during the application process.

It was pretty clear you didn't stand a chance unless you had some work experience (which I couldn't do since I was living abroad-hence, why I didn't try again).

Your best bet would be to try and find somewhere you can get some experience before applying (i.e. a nursing home, as a technician/ care assistant at a hospital).
