HELP PLEASE!! 1999 honda civic ex leaking fluids!?

Hi my 99 honda civic ex coupe is currently leaking automatic transmission fluid or oil. i can't tell because i put a board under the car and when it leaks it forms a pink/clear circle but theres a black dot in the middle???i took it to a small mechanic shop but they were closing but were able to lift it and check it out, he said the bottom was covered in fluid and would have to be cleaned before he could figure out exactly what was wrong and make repairs, he said it would cost $65 for the cleaning. i want to get it repaired at the Honda dealership or midas, which would be faster? and if i took it to those places does anyone have an esitmate on how much it would cost and how long? And can i go to a honda dealership for service when it opens and get serviced if i don't have an appointment? Also what are the effects of leaking oil and automatic transmission fluid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! PLEASE!!!

  1. 1. it could anything from an oil sender to an intake leak to a leaking trans case cover........

    2. fine an independent repair shop............

    3. dont go to the dealership because they will have you buying new car when all is over.

    4. do not go to midas, they have a hard enough time installing mufflers.

    5. leaking engine and trans fluid could result in severe damage to both units.

  2. In a nutshell,go to Honda Deaers as early as you can and request for early repairs/service that you may get it back the same day,if possible.

  3. Get it to the nearest Honda Service Branch or Dealer for a thorough and procedural check...

  4. Buy a Honda Civic Service manual and a jack with jackstands or car ramps.  Get your car up onto jackstands or drive your car over the car ramps.

Slide some cardboards underneath with a flash light and look for the source of the oil leak.  If the leak is coming from your transmission (large bell-shaped metal housing) out of your transmission bolt, tighten with a ratchet wrench and see if it helps stop your transmission oil leak.

If the leak is coming from your engine oil pan out of your engine oil drain plug, tighten with a ratchet wrench and see if it helps stop your engine oil leak - consider replacing the washer next time you get an oil change.

If the leak is dripping off the center of the block coming from the engine oil filter, tighten the oil filter with your hand or oil filter wrench and see if that helps stop your engine oil leak.

You can lift your engine oil dipstick to see if the level has dropped to confirm that the source is your engine oil.

Whether it's engine oil or transmission oil, having insufficient lubrication will promote lots of friction and heat causing damage to the metal gears and other parts inside.

Fastest and cheapest is to check yourself.

    Good luck!
