Question:

HELP PLEASE; I'm 15 and want to WALK FOR CHARITY ''RACE FOR LIFE''...?

I want to raise money for charity and so myself and two other friends have come up with an idea to walk for 'Race for life'.

Its 5km, I'm not too sure how long that takes or the actual distance?

I have started doing long walks every evening and at the moment I know that I can walk for at least 2 hours 45 minutes and the potential to walk for longer.

How close am I to being able to walk 5km? How many hours is this exactly?

Also..is there anybody who has walked, ran or done 'Race for life' than can give me advice or describe the actual event for me?

Thank you very much! The more answers and more information the better...

  1. 5km isn't very long - I can do 2 km in 15-20 minutes. So, it shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes. The 2 hours 45 minutes you're walking is way longer than you need to prepare for!

I haven't done Race for Life but I've done 45 km walk for charity events before. Those ones are tough! 5km will be a breeze for you. Have fun!

Ask your parents to drive a 5km loop near your house. Then you can see what a 5km route is like and practice that before the event. But really, 5km is quite short so it won't take you nearly as long as you're expecting.

  2. It took me 45 mins last year and I don't have very long legs. You will be fine plus with all the people its great fun. Its only about 3.5 miles.

  3. leave the walking to others while you put your mind on revising for your gcse exams
