I just went outside, and we found a baby bird in my backyard.! He's a baby, and he can't fly, and barely walk . We've been looking for his nest for about 45 minutes, and we still can't find it . It's really hot outside, and I really want him to live . Does anyone have any idea where to get worms, and where to find more information regarding where they might stay at and what they eat.?

  1. Howldine has the best advice. Put it up in a bush or tree and put your cat inside. Birds DON"T ABANDON THEIR YOUNG that is something humans do. It needs to be fed either regurgitated food from it's parents or a wide variety of insects. The people suggesting worms got their bird knowledge from watching cartoons. Worms are an occasional treat for birds not a staple.

  2. It probably doesn't have much of a chance to live, but you should still try. I would take it inside and put it somewhere safe. Then call the Tracey aviary. Ask them what to do. When I found a baby bird I fed it worms and apple sauce. It lived, but it was an "older" baby bird. That is what I would do.

  3. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it. Keep your cat away from that area.   If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  4. u can find worms in ur back yard under rocks!!! go to the pet store and ask them do they have any worms for birds!!! call ur local animal shelter and ask them wat do u do they should know!!! R if u have a bird santurary take it there!!!!

  5. If it is fully feathered, leave it alone-its parents are feeding it on the ground.  Put it on a low branch or in some thick bushes and walk away.  It will be fine.

  6. ok first call the shelter for animals. Then go there buy some worms at the store r find them in ur yard but hurry he need medical attention and fast......o and dont find the mom r nest cuse when a human touches her baby she dosnt want it and she might try to kill it so keep it away from out side.

  7. you should call your local humane society.. they'll be able to tell you what to do (that bird might not even eat worms).. they might even be able to take it and bring it to a bird sanctuary until it's old enough to live free again  :)
