    simple but good

  2. It totally depends on the quality of hotel you want to stay in, hotels in the cente of Amsterdam are cheap and plenty for the most part, there are hostels, rooms, hotels and suites available.  Usually, you can get there and find somewhere on the day, even close to the centre, or within a short walk.  I cannot recall any names of any, but I have stayed in loads, there are some good ones on Prinsengracht about five minutes walk from the centre.  Bear in mind that if you are staying in the centre, you are likely to be in, or very close to the Red Light district, or Zeedijk (zay- d**e).  If you like a lot of vibrant lifestyle this won't be a problem as it is full of life 24/7.  If you like things quieter, go a little further, literally only a few minutes walk is necessary.

There is or at least was, a great boat with individual rooms on but shared bathrooms, more of a backpackers place that was really cheap, behind Centraal Station.

You could try getting the number, or website for the Dutch Tourist information centre, I can't remember what it is called, but a search would sort that out.

Obviously it is nice to get there and know you have a room, but even in high season, you should be able to find an adequate hotel where you want it for the price you want to pay when you get there.  The good thing about that is that you get to chose what and where you want it.  And you can see the room before you agree.  There are plenty of backpackers hostels, but they are dormitory style and probably not what you are looking for.  Perhaps you could try expedia.co.uk or .com and see if they do hotel bookings in Amsterdam.

Bear in mind also that crime is higher in the centre, particularly in terms of pickpocketing and mugging, though unless you go somewhere really quiet or hang around in odd alleys it is not likely you would be mugged.  Do watch your wallet and passports though, be safe and aware, it is the same there as any other city with tourist attractions, no worse, no better, it is just that being so small, the main area is very compact.  It is also very, very well policed with a high uniform presence, and a few of the odder looking characters are actually undercover police.

  3. at the risk of stating the obvious, have you tried searching for 'amsterdam hotel' like I did when I went there

  4. Depends how many doobies you wanna smoke and how many ladyboys you wanna bang

  5. Search on google.

Heres some websites which may help:

    http://www.searchforhotels.com/

    http://www.easytobook.com/

    http://www.europe-cities.com/hotels-amst...

    http://www.amsterdam-hotels-guide.com/de...

    I reckon you'd get B&Bs cheaper.

So if you'd consider one of those heres some cheap sites:

    http://www.travellerspoint.com/budget-ac...

(This link looks very good - Check this one out)

    Or even cheaper a hostel;

  6. Try www.hostelworld.com. For that price, you're only likely to get a room in a dormitory in a hostel. Amsterdam is an expensive place.

  7. OK, been there many many times....

Get a Room at this Hostel.. The Flying Pig... Stay in the "Up Town" one... Its a little nicer, and cleaner... (the other on is in the middle of the red light district, if thats your thang...)

I suggest a 4 person room... Its a little more, but you dont have to deal with as many people in your room, type deal.  They do have a double, as well... Room #16....

AMAZING PLACE... Bar in the basement... Really cool...showers in your room.. free breakfast, free computers... vending machine with Heinekens in it...  they show movies, and allow you to play your own CD's in the bar.. They throw parties almost every weekend... its really a great place... The ONLY place I will stay, when I go back.....

Close to everything... (Vangough Museum, and city center)

HAVE FUN... I am sooooo jealous!

  9. Bulldog Hostel is great!

Or we stayed in a small B&B near Rembrant Square, this is also a good location.

Avoid the Damrak and Hotel Center Amsterdam - bit shady and the hotel was like a grimey mafia hideout!
