HELP! Paypal debt??

I recently got a letter from paypal regarding a debt? It says that I owe them $331 but the letter is addressed to a name I never heard of. I also am positive that I owe absolutely no money to paypal or anyone. Could it be possible someone used my address for their paypal account? What should I do?

  1. Yes contact pay pal immediately.

  2. Simple I would do three things,

First Contact paypal, they should clear most of the misinformation up.

Second Just take it to the post office tell them no one lives there by that name.

3rd review your credit report make sure someone hasn't stolen your personal information.  You get a free one every year.  If someone has and your listed under that alias, dispute name, report idenity theft.  Idenity theft is hard to overcome sometimes but can be done faster now days, because most disputes can be handled online.  You can see your credit back to normal in about 6 months or less.  Used to take years.  Remember once you report idenity theft, its harder to get or apply for credit.

  3. Check the letter to make sure the mailman didn't make a mistake by putting it in your mailbox.  This sometimes happens as mail can get stuck to each other.

If it correctly made it into your mailbox, a PayPal account number or further information about the account.  If this is not your number, it will be a useful addition to the name.

PayPal should have put contact information on the letter that they sent you.  Contact them and let them know that you received a letter regarding purchases.  Let PayPal know that, while the letter is addressed to your mailbox, it is addressed to a foreign name.  If there is account information on the letter, let them know whether or not it is your account number.

If the account number is your own, express your confusion for the charges.  If the account number is not yours, express your confusion for the letter being sent to your mailbox.

PayPal will most likely just ask you to discard the letter as it is probably confidential.  That PayPal accidentally released information about someone else's account is probably against the conditions they set, so they will most likely just try to clean up the mishap.

To answer your first question, it is possible that someone registered your address for their account.

  4. Contact THEm!!!  Someone has probably stole your address

  5. i wonder if you became an unfortunate victim of the famous paypal phishing scam?  did you ever, or do you remember getting an e-mail claiming to be paypal saying there was a suspected hacking into your paypal account saying they need to verify your username/password or your account would be shut down?  if you ever get one of those do not respond to it.  it's not paypal.  you need to report it to paypal immediately.   it's a scam hackers use to try and steal your account.

anyway, i'd definately contact paypal and see what's going on.
