The tub of a washer goes into its spin-dry cycle, starting from rest and reaching an angular speed of 4.0 rev/s in 12.0 s. At this point the person doing the laundry opens the lid, and a safety switch turns off the washer. The tub slows to rest in 10.0 s. Through how many revolutions does the tub turn during this 22 s interval? Assume constant angular acceleration while it is starting and stopping (rev).

A satellite moves in a circular orbit around Earth at a speed of 5965 m/s.

(a) Determine the satellite's altitude above the surface of Earth.

_____m

(b) Determine the period of the satellite's orbit.

______h

  1. I'm not going to do this for you. Here are the equations you need. All you have to do is plug in the numbers. It doesn't get any easier than that.

    Convert rev/s into rad/s by multiplying by 2π.

    α = ∆ω / ∆t

    θf = θi + ωit + ½αt²

    θ = angle, ω = angular velocity, α = angular acceleration, t = time

    # of revolutions = # of radians / 2π

    h = (GM / v²) - R

    h = altitude of satellite above Earth, G = gravitational constant, M = mass of Earth, v = velocity, R = radius of Earth

    T = 2πr / v

    T = period of orbit, r = (R + h)
