My boyfriend caught and gutted a trout but the only thing that bothers me it removing the bones.

I have been told you can remove the majority of the bones with small tweezers before cooking. I also heard somewhere I think from TV that the best way is to remove the bones once the fish has been cooked as they should just peel out in the one go.....I'm confused about what to do, please advise.

I am planning on seasoning the trout wrapping in tinfoil and baking in the oven.

  1. Once it's cooked, you just make sure you lift half of it to one side then gently lift the tail and the whole backbone should lift out. You might have a few small bones left where the fins were so check those areas out, but either way, the bones will literally fall out if the fish is cooked properly.

  2. Cooking time will vary on size of trout.

    Supermarket size 25-20mins.

    Rinse fish well

Wrap fish in foil with olive oil, seasoning. You could add a squirt of lemon juice.

    Cook in oven 180-200dgs.

To test take knife to back of head if it lifts easily from the back bone its done.

Cut into the fish along its back bone peel of meat the back bone should lift away along with all the smaller bones.

I'm sure there is some posh way of doing it but cant help with that one.

  3. the best way is fillet it to start with,i do this with all my fish, turn it on its belly, and with a sharp knife working from behind the gills, fetch it through till you feel the spine, then run your knife down following the spine ,to the tail and break out just before the tail leaving you with one fillett.repeat on the other side????? now this should leave you with head..spine,..and tail.

then check the fillets running your fingers slowly over them, and of course visually as well, till youve removed  all the bones,if you follow my first steps the majority of bones will be there leaving you minimal tweezer work?????????

  4. Yeah the flesh just breaks away from the bones after its cooked. Also the cooking method your talking about is en pappilotte lol
