HELP! Thread for sewing question?

I'm going to be sewing a plastic bag (like shopping bag -->> a.k.a. a bag you get your clothes handed to you in after making a purchase at Aeropostale, Vanity, or Wet Seal) to cotton cloth. Can I use regular thread for this? or do I have to use special thread for the plastic. I will most likely be hand sewing this. If I need special thread, please tell me the store in which to get it and what specifically to ask for :) and if I do happen to be using a sewing machine for this, would I need a different type of thread?? PLEASE HELP!!! asap!

  1. Do it on the machine. Use normal thread with a sharp needle. (not a ball point needle)

  2. Use regular sewing thread, whether you're sewing the thread by hand or in your machine.

When sewing plastic on your sewing machine, place a piece of paper under the plastic material. It will help the plastic move more smoothly under the pressure foot without sticking.  When you're done sewing, remove the paper.

  3. normal thread should be ok but fishing line would work well also and it is very strong.

do it by machine though because it would be much stronger than by hand. =]
