  1. winston believes that the proles who make up 85% of Oceania's population are the only ones who can overthrow the party. However, he also realises that is not a serious possibility and revolution must come from within. the existence of the  brotherhood is more important to winston as the existence of the brotherhood proves he is not insane and is no longer alone and there is some level of dissent in society. O` brien has followed winston and knows his inner being. O1brien knows the party is changing the past but he still believes what they tell him. He is practising double think.

  2. 1. through the proles.

    2. knowing that the brotherhood exists, nothing he does as a member is very anti-big brother that he wasn't already thinking.

    3. the inner party members are the only ones who would know the ending since it had been erased from every one else's minds by editing it out of society.
