Hey folks. In a couple of weeks, I will be heading to Ensenada, Mexico on a little Baja cruise. I am really excited to explore this area of Mexico and was wondering for

1) Tips for safe traveling

2) Places to see

3) and finally . . . Shopping advice!!! I have heard that in mexico and Ensenada that there are tons of artists and booths that sell stuff for great prices.

Do you recommend any stores?

Are you able to haggle the price ?

What sort of things do they sell?

What type of jewelry, handbags, etc do they have?

What are some great deals you have found ? I am dying to know !

Thanks to anyone who stops by and takes the time to reply. Have a great day ! Peace

  1. 1) Use common sense like you would here in the states when you are in Mexico. Stick to public streets & places. Travel in pairs (if possible). Always be aware of your surroundings. Don't look for trouble.

    2) When you arrive look for local magazines or newsletters with recommendations for places to see. The cruise ship should have something for you.

    3) You can haggle, and if you walk away they will lower their prices as well. Generally most vendors start out with high prices knowing that you will ask them to come down. "Cuanto cuesta" means how much? "Lo menos?" means, what's the lowest you'll take.

Don't shop in tourist areas like mercados that are close to a port or a busy street. If you can get a local to help you, look for mercados that cater more to Mexicans and that's where you'll find more bargains on evverything you're looking for. Mercados/flea markets will carry everything you can think of generally.

The best deals I have found were no where near the beach! Sorry! If you can travel a little inland travel to Tonala, Jalisco which is a suburb of Guadalara. You will found some crazy bargains in Tonala. The very first time that I went there I spent $100 dollars and ended up with 8 Christmas gifts for family & friends and everyone loved what I bought them. Tonala has tons of artesanias - like pottery, glass ware, artwork, some jewelry, and more at ridiculously low prices. I go there every chance I have.

  2. I only been to Ensenada one time and I went to "LA BUFADFORA" is a very "tourist " place to see. Roughly translated as "the snorter," this underwater cave regularly sucks in sea water and spits it out the cave's top drenching all the people that are around.

I was only 16 years old when I went so I don't really have any tips for you. You probably get better info from: http://www.ensenada.com

    have a nice trip!

  3. www.visitmexico.com

official site of the mexican tourism board.

whew...don't flash money or wear expensive jewelry.

be aware of your surroundings. don't carry your passport, but rather a copy of your passport.

ride some horses you can rent on the beach in ensenada.

hussongs cantina is always hopping if you like loud music and partying.

great smoked sea food in ensenada too and huge prawns.

the stores suck. the jewelry is over priced and is only bought by tourists.

you haggle by walking away and they come down in price. but still, you will pay 500% more than it is worth and you can get the cheap silver jewelry in a swap meat or flea market in the usa for less.

knockoff hand bags and cheap jewelry.

only thing they have that i think is priced right, is fire opals. but...you have to really know your opals

  4. for safety do not wear jewelry and do not carry a lot of money with you or at least dont show it. about shopping since a lot of tourist go there the prices on some things may not be resonable so be careful on that make sure what ever you are buying is actually worth the $$. You have to try the seafood it is great since it is fresh right out of the ocean. things to do boat riding rent a horse and take a ride near the ocean and try checking out online about things they offer there but most of all have fun and be safe.
