well I got all A*s for my 10 GCSEs in:

English Lang.

English Lit.

Maths

Science (double award)

RS

History

French

Spanish

Geography

soo I pretty much have a wide choice of A-level subjects.

I really want to do both French and Spanish but need to choose 2 (or perhaps 3) more!

If anyone has suggestions PLEEEEEASE answer and include reasons why I should take the subjects.

Also I would really appreciate any ideas of actual career possibilities.

Thanks

  1. Performing Arts or Photography would be good to balance out the other stressful alevels that you would be more than likely to take.

I did two science and an english language Alevels and found the courses of Photography and Performing Arts to be amazing at keeping my head clear.

If you really would like to do french and spanish then maybe an interpreter would be a good job for you? It does pay good amount of money - my sister is a sign language interpreter.

By the Way, MANY CONGRATS :]

  2. It really depends on what you want to do when you're older.

You could become a translater for politicians who live abroad and come to the UK, or you could work for businesses who need things translated if they're going multi-national. Or Cabin Crew. Or you could work in the travel industry in Europe, i.e in France and Spain.

You could try taking some subjects which you enjoy a lot, also.

  3. You're a geek mayn.

  4. I've just finished year 13 with the whole A levels and applying to unis thing so I can give you some tips.

First of all, well done on your GCSEs!

Secondly, doing languages will come in handy with pretty much any job that you choose so that's a good place to start. Languages at A level are pretty manageable - just keep up the practice and you'll be fine.

Time wise, the biggest subjects listed above are English (Lit.), History, Geography and RS. RS and Geography aren't generally considered as highly as the other two so bare this in mind. English and History will give you a great grounding in many areas and universities love them.

Adding a science or maths to the mix is always a good choice. Again it keeps your options open and shows you're well-rounded. Also it'll make a nice change from the other essay subjects. The jump to AS level maths from GCSE level is very small so you'll be able to handle the work easily.

Don't do English (lang.) - unis don't like it and I doubt your school will offer it anyway.

Doing 5 *** is ok - You'll be able to cope after getting GCSE results like those. 4 A levels, however, is MUCH more work than 5 ***. Generally you'll get a uni offer for only 3 A levels - it's rarely 4.

In terms of job prospects, you really don't need to concern yourself with that until you leave uni. Just focus on which subject you want to do at uni and then your career options will unfold. If you pick your subject first then you're more likely to be happy in your career than to pick a career and then be forced to do a subject which you may not be that into.

If you need anything else, just ask and good luck!
