  1. Let the set be "all whole numbers greater than zero."

    subset 1 = (1, 3, 5, 7, 9...)

    subset 2 = (2, 4, 6, 8, 10...)

You can distinguish between the two by saying subset 1 is not divisible by 2, where as, subset 2 all members are divisible by 2. Adding together any 2 members of subset one will result in a member of subset 2.

Adding together any two members of subset 2 will result in a member of subset 2.

Multiplying 2 members of subset 1 will result in a member of subset 1.

Multiplying 2 members of subset 2 will result in a member of subset 2.

You can probably come up with more.

I hope there was no "set" given somewhere else on the problem sheet. I just made the "set" up, so if there was one assigned, my answer may not fit.

  2. Any two subsets of what?

Generally when trying to distinguish between two subsets, what you want to do is pick an element from one of them, and show that it can't be in the other.
