  1. ok first of all u have a 2000 civic si. that model civic came with a B16a2 motor. a Bseries not a D series, so forget about the D16y8 or the y7.

now the B16 is more expensive than the ones you were looking at first. Hmotorsonline.com qoutes them at $999.00 plus s&h.

you can browse craigslist, honda forums for a better price or even junkyards, but these models are rare and hard to find in junk yards.

I would say get qoutes on to repair your old one and go from there.

by repairing your old one you save trouble later on the road, say u get pulled over out here in Cali they "pop" your hood in various occasions to get VIN numbers in your motor.

if you keep your old motor your good to go, and saving your car a trip to the impound.

If you buy one and replace your old one u have to register it and smog it. a lil bit more hassle but it can be done.

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_eng...

You should read the whole Wikipedia article, it tells you what you need to do internal to the engine to have it be reliable at high power levels.

  3. The Y8 is a newer engine. It has a slightly higher power and torque output then the Y7.

  4. The Y7 is the 96-2000 sohc non-v-tec engine.

the Y8 is the 96-2000 sohc v-tec engine.

If you have an Si these engines won't work unless you get the transmission, axles, ecu, engine mounts, shift linkage. It will work but It will coast more to buy all these parts than just buying a B16a2. So just buy the original motor like Roger says.

If you cant afford a B16, buy a B18b or B20b (but with this one you have to change the intake manifold with a B18b to work or any aftermarket intake manifold to work) both are cheaper than the B16 and will bolt right into your engine buy with all your original parts. The only problem with them is you will have to change your ECU, because you will have a check engine light because these engines don't have v-tec.  Whatever you buy remember to get an OBD-2 engine.
