  1. naw man you don't need to mess with your alternator at all i know the big 3 sounds the best but there so many ways to get around it i just don't recommend it because there so many people who improperly do it and it can mess up your batter an your alternator and you need your alternator!.

just get a cap a 1.5 farad your simply just not running that much power to do  all that stuff i know alot of people will disagree but seriously i've been through it and its a waste of money time energy all that just get the cap save your self some hastle

  2. More power for the amp is always good, simplest way to find out your alternator amp rating is (for me at least) take the car to a battery/electric shop., even a good car audio installation place will be able to tell you.. NOT a big box store.  zx1500.1 if I remember right those are power hungry beasts and will basically take all the power you can give it.  For your information, when it comes to car audio and cars, manufactures of the cars make the power system able to handle what comes in the car, so when you add an amp you are drawing more then the current system can handle (especially new cars) if your amp can't get the power it needs your system will sound horrible when you turn it up.  Personally get a better alternator, best you can fit in it (you might be able to get your current one rebuilt/upgraded at an alternator shop, its cheaper) and a new battery do not overlook the battery, Honda did not put a battery in that car that can handle the draw of a sub amp.  Good battery? Ultima.  Of course with all that done don't forget to get wire to the amp that will take the load the amp demands.  Now that you got all that stuff, for the big bass notes you know the ones that rattle the car.. four cars away, get a good capacitor not no hundred dollar one either, a GOOD one and your system will be solid, LOUD and CLEAR.  Can't help you on the capacitor that info is from a third source, my boss, I haven't played with one yet... maybe soon thou. All I know is that other than the amount the capacitor can hold, you also need to know its "response time" your amp needs the power NOW not in half a second when the bass note is over. That's all got for ya, hope it was helpful.

p.s I learned a trick from a guy that does alternator rebuilding If you do a lot of cruising (like a beach where your max speed is like 10 kilometers an hour) get a smaller pulley on the alternator it will turn it faster at low speeds so your amp is not starving for power... never tried it but dudes around 30 and has done alternators his whole life, its his dads company so I figure he should know.
